Boy hit by car after getting off bus in stable condition

The 6-year-old boy who was struck by a car after getting off a school bus on Friday was listed in stable condition Tuesday, an Essentia Health spokeswoman said.

According to Fargo police:

Isaiah Northington had been crossing the street after he departed a Fargo school bus, stopped westbound on 25th Avenue South at 15th Street.

The bus’s lights were on and the stop arm was out when the boy was apparently hit by an oncoming two-door Pontiac Grand Prix, traveling eastbound on 25th Avenue South.

The driver of the Pontiac was identified as Joan Wraalstad, 75, from Fargo.

On Friday evening, Fargo police said a preliminary investigation revealed Wraalstad allegedly failed to stop for the school bus.

Police are still investigating the accident, and the case will likely be reviewed by the city attorney.

Fargo police Sgt. Mark Lykken said Wraalstad could potentially face a school bus violation.

“There was no intent, so it seems more of an infraction,” he said.
