William Garroway Moorhead, for whom the city of Moorhead is named, was born July 7, 1811, at Moorhead’s Ferry on the Susquehanna River, 22 miles north of Harrisburg, Pa. He was one of four sons and three daughters born to Irish immigrant parents who came to America in 1798.Word count: 353
