Jacobson's double-double paces Shanley boys basketball team to victory against West Fargo

Fargo Shanley was without its playmaking point guard for the entire second half Tuesday.

That still couldn’t stop it from pulling away.

A.J. Jacobson had 14 points and 10 rebounds to lift the Deacons to a 60-46 Eastern Dakota Conference victory at West Fargo.

“We’ve been game planning for this for a week,” Jacobson said. “This is the most important game of the season so far because we had lost to these guys. We wanted to get them back.”

Shanley (9-2, 8-2) lost senior Josh Rodenbiker on a scary play that ended the first half.

Rodenbiker flipped in the air, falling awkwardly on his head as he attempted to block a West Fargo shot at the buzzer.

He was taken to the locker room early, and spent the entire second half on the bench with his warm up top pulled over his head. Rodenbiker entered the game second on the team with 15.9 points per game.

The Deacons held a 24-20 halftime lead.

With Rodenbiker sidelined, Shanley turned to Jacobson and backup freshman guard Patrick Strom.

Shanley drilled three consecutive 3-pointers to take a 55-39 lead with only a few minutes remaining.

“They went into the zone for a little bit and we have guys who can hit shots,” Jacobson said. “So we just knocked down shots today.”

West Fargo (6-5, 5-5) started the game hot, pumping the ball inside to 6-foot-9 senior Justin Schock.

However, the success in the paint was short lived.

The Packers shot just 28 percent from the floor in the game and were outrebounded 39-29.

Jon Pistorius scored 14 points to provide a spark for West Fargo off the bench.

But it wasn’t enough to make a serious run.

West Fargo leading scorer Chase Farkas was held to 9 points on 2 of 12 from the floor. Farkas is averaging 16.6 a game.

The Packers have lost four of the last five games.

“I’m not really sure where we’re at,” West Fargo coach Greg Limke said. “We have a lot of question marks. We’re still getting after it (in practice). But you still have to take it to the court when it’s game time. We have to respond to those challenges on game night. That’s something I’m looking forward to getting better at.”
