Sanford Health to get breast cancer centerSIOUX FALLS, S.D. – Philanthropist Denny Sanford’s recently announced $100 million donation to Sanford Health will be used for a national breast cancer initiative.
“It is with a sense of pride and conviction that we confirm that Mr. Sanford’s $100 million gift will launch a national breast cancer initiative,” Brian Mortenson, president of the Sanford Health Foundation, stated in a news release.
Breast cancer is second only to lung cancer for new diagnoses and deaths, according to the World Health Organization.
Details of the initiative will be announced in August. “This new initiative will create a world-class center for the research, diagnosis and treatment of breast cancer in keeping with the standard of excellence in Sanford’s cancer and other programs,” Mortenson said.
