Authorities seek information on van connected with Cooperstown homicide investigation

COOPERSTOWN, N.D. – Authorities here received a tip that a van connected with the recent homicide of Kurt Douglas Johnson may have been spotted in Fargo-Moorhead between Jan. 1 and Jan. 4.

Griggs County Sheriff Robert Hook said officials are asking the public to contact them if they saw the van between Cooperstown and the Fargo-Moorhead area between those dates.

The van, which is now impounded, is a maroon 1995 GMC Safari with North Dakota plate GKZ 294. It belongs to Daniel Evan Wacht, who faces a murder charge in connection with Johnson’s death.

If you have any information, call the Griggs County Sheriff’s Office at (701) 797-2202 or call your local law enforcement agency.

Johnson, 54, was last seen getting into the van on New Year’s Eve, according to authorities.

Wacht, 30, was arrested Jan. 5. He is being held in the Stutsman County Jail in Jamestown.
