North Dakota Senate GOP leader Stenehjem returns to Capitol

BISMARCK — The North Dakota Senate's Republican majority leader has returned from a 10-day trip to India.

Bismarck Sen. Bob Stenehjem says it was an economic development trip sponsored by a group that promotes business ties between the United States and India.

Stenehjem says he was asked to go as a representative of the State Legislative Leaders Foundation. Stenehjem is vice chairman of the foundation's board of directors.

He missed six days of the Legislature, and he'll be paid his regular $158 daily wage for each day he was absent. Stenehjem says he has no problem being paid because he was away on state business.

Stenehjem says he met a number of Indian executives, and he says his contacts could be helpful to state job creation efforts.
