Dalrymple prepares for Devils Lake floodingBISMARCK – Gov. Jack Dalrymple said he’s declared an emergency to help protect the Devils Lake Basin and will ask for an emergency declaration from the president to prepare for spring flooding.
Dalrymple’s emergency declaration covers Benson, Nelson, Ramsey and Towner counties and the Spirit Lake Tribe.
He said a presidential emergency declaration would start the disbursement of federal resources and money to help local governments and tribes prepare for what will likely be a substantial rise in the lake level this spring.
The governor also asked for $5.8 million in a federal matching grant to help the city of Minnewaukan move buildings or protect critical infrastructure from high water.
