Moorhead approves fake-gun ordinanceOn a vote of 5-3 Monday, the Moorhead City Council gave final approval to a revised ordinance making it a misdemeanor to carry a phony gun in public places in Moorhead.
Council members Luther Stueland, Brenda Elmer and Mark Hintermeyer voted against the change.
Nancy Otto, Diane Wray Williams, Mark Altenburg, Dan Hunt and Greg Lemke voted in favor of the ordinance change championed by Moorhead Police Chief David Ebinger.
In other action Monday, the council heard from City Manager Michael Redlinger, who said city workers are preparing now for potential spring flooding.
He said the current forecast shows a 50 percent chance the Red River will reach a stage of 31.5 feet.
If the forecast worsens to a 50 percent chance of the river reaching 37 feet, the city will proceed much as it did in the spring of 2010, when neighborhoods were organized into zones to fight flooding, Redlinger said.
Also at that point, he said, the city would provide filled sandbags and other resources to residents who need them.
The city is working to set up neighborhood zone meetings for the end of February.
