Moorhead blitz results in 119 minors cited

Moorhead police issued 119 underage drinking citations from Aug. 15 to Dec. 20 as part of a special enforcement effort in campus neighborhoods.

Five individuals were also cited under the city’s “social host” ordinance for allowing underage drinking to occur at their house, apartment or dorm room, Lt. Joel Scharf state in a news release. The misdemeanor offense carries a maximum fine of $1,000 and up to 90 days in jail.

The Enforcing Underage Drinking Laws College Enforcement program is a federally funded campaign and is administered by the Minnesota Department of Public Safety.

Similar patrols – jointly funded by Concordia College, Minnesota State University Moorhead, Minnesota State Community and Technical College and the Moorhead Police Department – will occur throughout the remainder of the school year, the news release stated.
