Weekend Watch: Roc Day
No, it’s not a mid-winter rock ’n’ roll festival. This Saturday’s observance of Roc Day, or St. Distaff Day, is a nod to the old European tradition that followed the Christmas season. After the 12 days of Christmas, on Jan. 7, old-world wives returned to their regular household duties like spinning yarn. Members of the Northern Prairie Fiber Artists demonstrate the traditional art of spinning, including the use of the distaff (hence the nonsecular holiday name), and other fiber arts from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, 202 1st Ave. N., Moorhead. The Roc Day demonstration is free, but entrance to museum exhibits are $5. (218) 299-5511.
