Weekend Watch: ‘Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration’
International documentary photographer Barbara Beirne focuses on the faces of teenagers thrust into the American life through her traveling collection “Becoming American: Teenagers and Immigration” showing at the Historical and Cultural Society of Clay County, 202 1st Ave. N., Moorhead. The exhibit pairs the photos of teens trying to blend their native cultures with the habits of their environments along with excerpts of interviews from Beirne’s time with the subjects. The show’s opening, from 4 to 7 p.m. Tuesday, also focuses on new American kids in the Fargo-Moorhead community. In correlation with the show, HCSCC asked area student immigrants to write about their experiences. Those people chosen will be honored at Tuesday night’s reception, when their words and images will be incorporated into the show. Tuesday’s event is free and open to the public. (218) 299-5511.
