Man dies after being injured in I-94 pileup

A Walcott, N.D., man seriously injured last Thursday in the Interstate 94 crash involving 100 vehicles has died.

Lowell Balk, 50, died Monday in Essentia Health in Fargo, according to a death notice received by The Forum.

The North Dakota Highway Patrol said Balk was struck by a vehicle after he exited his semi to help other motorists.

The Highway Patrol said Balk was 45, but Boulger Funeral Home confirmed Tuesday that he was 50.

A funeral has been scheduled for 11 a.m. Friday at Walcott Lutheran Church.
