Parties escape injury when vehicle hits Highway Patrol squad carFARGO – Two people who were sitting inside a North Dakota Highway Patrol squad car after being involved in a crash in Fargo escaped injury Tuesday when another car spun out of control and struck the squad car.
Patrol Lt. Bryan Niewind was investigating the initial crash on Interstate 29 north of the Main Avenue exit and had his squad car parked on the shoulder close to the median with his emergency lights illuminated, according to a news release.
A 1987 Volvo car driven by Vladimir Hutanu was northbound on I-29 approaching the crash site in the far right lane when he lost control of the car and it spun 180 degrees, crossed two lanes of traffic and struck the squad car, the news release stated.
The squad car sustained damage to both the front and rear passenger-side doors and wheels, and the Volvo was damaged on the front driver’s side.
Hutanu was cited for care required.
The crash, reported at 2:50 p.m., remains under investigation.
