Forum editorial: Red River Valley spared the worst of winter, so far

December snow in the Red River Valley is no surprise. The region has had plenty of the white stuff this year, but so far it’s come without a blizzard. Monday’s 6 inches (give or take) of snow generated warnings and travel advisories, but it was no rip-roaring Northern Plains storm. Rather, it was a relatively benign and beautiful winter snowfall.

Residents of this frosty part of the country are prepared for winter’s worst. Last year at this time, a major blizzard was taking aim at the Fargo area. It was a record Christmas holiday storm that pretty much shut down the region for a couple of days.

So far this season, no big blizzard has struck. Maybe we’ll get lucky. But then again, there is a lot of winter yet to come.
