Group won't push for higher ND tobacco tax, statewide smoking banBISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — North Dakota's anti-smoking agency says it will not push for an increase in the state's tobacco tax during the 2011 legislative session.
Jeanne Prom is director of the Center for Tobacco Prevention and Control Policy. She tells Prairie Public Radio that it will take more education and legislative support to boost the tax.
She said the agency won't spearhead an effort to pass a statewide smoke-free law. Prom said there might be some support among lawmakers for the idea, but it doesn't have enough support to pass.
