These accidents are very personalI want to comment about The Forum’s Leafy Spurge to Ramsey County State’s Attorney Lonnie Olson. Maybe he was trying to punish Faith Mitzel for killing a pregnant woman and injuring two others when she crossed the center line and hit their motorcycles? I don’t know.
It is frustrating that because Mitzel is 93 years old, many people feel sorry for her. She obviously has no remorse. She fights a $20 fine for an accident that she caused. She has changed many people’s lives forever. Had she been a 23-year-old, she might have been tested for drugs and alcohol. The Forum Editorial Board might have no difficulty dealing with that.
Your Leafy Spurge really hit a nerve with me. You see, shortly after that accident, a pickup driver pulled out in front of my daughter on a motorcycle. She was seriously injured, and her life has been changed forever.
The patrolman at the scene of my daughter’s accident made a judgment call to not test the pickup driver for drugs or alcohol. According to the patrolman, the pickup driver was not impaired.
Both drivers ruined lives forever, with very little punishment. I would like to see legislation changed so that anyone who causes an injury accident is at least tested for drugs and alcohol, no matter their age.
