Weekend Watch: Jamie Parsley reading
The Fargo tornado of 1957 left its mark on the city as it tore through the north side of town and killed 12. Among the dead were husband and wife Betty Lou and Don Titgen, cousins of Jamie Parsley. The Episcopal pastor and associate poet laureate of North Dakota was born nearly 13 years after the tragedy but revisits the dark day in his new collection of verse, “Fargo, 1957: An Elegy.” Working with the Institute for Regional Studies, the book features about 30 poems and a handful of archival photos from the event. Parsley reads from the new book at 4 p.m. Saturday at the Spirit Room, 111 Broadway. A book reception follows the reading with music by oboist Justin Schwartz. Both events are free. (701) 237-0230.
