Christmas Bird Counts planned through Jan. 4The 111th national Christmas Bird Count is taking place now through Jan. 4.
Thousands of volunteers will identify and count bird species as part of the longest-running citizen science project in the world. Scientists rely on the data collected to better understand how birds and the environment are faring, and what needs to be done to protect them.
The Audubon’s count in Cass and Clay counties will be held Saturday.
Interested volunteers can call Marshall Johnson at (701) 293-3373 for more information.
A count is also planned Dec. 28 for the Bluestem Prairie and Buffalo River State Park near Glyndon, Minn. Volunteers can call Matt Mecklenburg at (218) 498-2679 for more information.
