Bald eagle shot, killed in Richland CountyWAHPETON, N.D. – The North Dakota Game and Fish Department is investigating the illegal fatal shooting of a mature bald eagle late last week in Richland County.
District Game Warden Tim Phalen said he received a call Friday afternoon about an eagle wedged in a tree five miles west and five miles south of Wahpeton along the Wild Rice River, according to a Game and Fish news release.
Phalen said the eagle had been shot, fell forward and became tangled in branches. A local utility company assisted in retrieving the bird, the news release stated.
“This was a mature, adult bald eagle,” Phalen stated in the release. “There was no mistaking this for another species.”
