Convicted rapist pleads guilty to felony chargeA convicted rapist pleaded guilty Thursday in Becker County District Court to a charge of violating predatory offender laws.
Robert Baca, a 44-year-old Level III sex offender, faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison and a fine of up to $10,000.
However, sentencing guidelines suggest he ought to serve between 34 and 46 months in prison, Becker County Attorney Michael Fritz said.
A sentencing hearing has been scheduled for Jan. 13.
Baca allegedly took off his GPS bracelet after he was released from prison in June.
The tamper alarm on the tracking unit was activated, sparking a three-hour search before police eventually found Baca in Pelican Rapids, Minn.
Baca was released from prison after having served a stint on a 2008 charge of failing to register as a predatory offender.
