E Fast facts: The Spartans lost a lot of physical presence with the departures of Teschendorf, Waller and Scherer. However, Ouren said North will remain solid on the defensive end of the court. “We have a really close-knit group,” Ouren said. “ … It’s going to come down to us executing and developing that mental toughness.” … Dehne averaged 15.9 points, 4.1 rebounds, 4.3 assists and 4.5 steals last season. … “I’ve been thinking all summer of what teams are going to throw at (Dehne),” Ouren said. “Teams are probably going to key on our posts and Dehne, so there will be open shots out there. We’re going to need some kids to be willing and confident enough to take them.”

We will run when it’s there and set up in the half court when we have to. Working hard on defense is a real point of emphasis for us.” … Jacobson said Grand Forks Central, Fargo South, West Fargo, Fargo North and Red River all have good teams returning to create a balanced Eastern Dakota Conference.

E Fast facts: Fisher led the state with 59 3-pointers last season. … University of North Dakota recruit Meghan Roehrich led the state in scoring with 23.1 points per game. She is the Bruins all-time leading scorer 1,166 points. … “We’re going to have to lean on (Fisher and Roehrich) for awhile,” Flaagan said. “But for us to have a successful season, we’re going to need three or four of those kids who played JV last year to contribute.” … Senior post Raquel Wellentin was lost for the season with a knee injury during preseason practices. She averaged 6.6 points and 6.2 rebounds a game.

She averaged 14.3 points and 7.1 rebounds a year ago. … “We’re going to be an up-tempo defensive team and an up-tempo offensive team,” Metcalf said. “And we’re going to be a real scrappy defensive team. That’s the style we like to play. We have a nice mixture of athletes.”

E Fast facts: The Spuds are going to have a young team with little experience, but this isn’t new when looking back to last year. Moorhead lost two starters after Christmas, forcing it to make adjustments on the fly…This year, Kapitan said, will require some of those players who stepped up last year to reprise their roles. “We got some nice young kids coming up and we have seniors with leadership,” he said.

E Fast facts: DGF returns three starters in Brinkman, Mercil and Ylinemi. Other than that, the Rebels will return a young team that has spent some time together. ... Molstre said the team played together in a summer league where they got a chance to learn the offense. That could come in handy in a section that is shaping up to be one of the toughest in the state. “Every team in our section is tough,” he said. “Hawley won section last year and they have all but one kid coming back. Then there’s Wadena, they’re athletic. So is Pelican and Perham. It’s just a tough half of the section.”

E Fast facts: There’s quite a bit to look forward to for Park Christian, with the team returning three starters. One of those starters is Weber, who started last year as a seventh-grader. Johnson, who was an assistant for six years, said Weber has a solid shot that could help Park Christian quite a bit throughout the season and potentially improve on last year’s season. “There are a lot of unknowns and we will see what will happen with the team this year,” he said. “I just know I am excited about coaching this team and looking forward to the opportunity.
