Medicare outreach event scheduled today in FargoSeniors can attend a seminar in Fargo today to learn about enrollment options for Medicare Advantage and the Medicare prescription drug benefit.
The workshop will be at the Doublewood Inn, 3333 13th Ave. S., with presentations scheduled for 9 a.m., 11 a.m., 1 p.m. and 3 p.m.
The events are annual, but almost 1,000 enrollees of Medicare Advantage in Cass County have been told that their existing plan is not renewing its contract for 2011.
United Health Group, Humana, Universal America and Medica have notified almost 2,300 North Dakota customers they will not offer Medicare Advantage plans in 2011.
Also, Medicare recipients must select their prescription drug plan, also called Medicare Part C.
The deadline for enrolling is Dec. 31.
The seminar is sponsored by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services and the North Dakota State Health Insurance Counseling program, or SHIC.
SHIC counselors are trained in all aspects of senior insurance issues, such as Medicare, Medicare Part D, Medicare Advantage plans and long-term care insurance.
