West Fargo man gets two days for punching pit bill puppy

A West Fargo man who was accused of punching a pit bull puppy in July was given two days in jail after pleading guilty on Monday.

Jessy Duane Olson was charged with mistreatment of an animal after a police officer said he saw Olson hit the puppy twice in the face with a closed fist as he held the dog in a headlock.

Olson pleaded guilty to the misdemeanor in Cass County District Court and was sentenced to two days in jail, said Tristan Van de Streek, an assistant Cass County state’s attorney.

According to a police report filed with the charges, Olson told an officer he was disciplining the dog named Cracker because it had run off several times recently.

A sobriety test registered Olson as having a blood alcohol level of 0.25 after he was arrested, more than three times the legal limit to operate a vehicle, according to a police report.
