Holiday Lights Parade slated for tonight

Don’t forget what’s coming to town tonight: Fargo-Moorhead’s biggest parade.

The annual Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade will mean downtowns in both cities will make for tough sledding for drivers starting in the late afternoon.

In Fargo, Broadway will be closed from Main Avenue to Sixth Street North starting at 4:15 p.m., said Lt. Joel Vettel. All vehicles still parked on Broadway at that time will be towed.

All cross streets connecting with Broadway in that stretch will be closed at 5:30 p.m. for one block on both sides of Broadway, he said.

Moorhead’s Center Avenue will close from Eighth Street to 11th Street at 5 p.m., though the intersection will remain open, Lt. Tory Jacobson said.

After the parade starts at 6:30 p.m., Center Avenue is off limits from 11th Street to the Red River until the parade ends, he said.

Vettel said Main Avenue would be the best alternative route for drivers trying to get between the two cities. For getting around Moorhead, Jacobson suggested the Third Street underpass, Main Avenue, 11th Street and 14th Street.

Vettel said parking lots just east of Fargo’s library will be open, as well as the Island Park ramp.
