Parade shines spotlight on F-M downtowns

As many as 110 parade floats are expected to help make the season bright in Fargo and Moorhead Tuesday night.

That number would slightly outshine the float turnout for last year’s Xcel Energy Holiday Lights Parade, according to Jed Pahan of Fargo’s Downtown Community Partnership, which is helping coordinate the parade.

Tuesday’s event will start at 6:30 p.m. at Eighth Street and Center Avenue in Moorhead.

The parade will roll west onto Fargo’s NP Avenue and then turn north onto Broadway and proceed to Sixth Avenue North.

Pahan said a float competition that began last year will continue this year with a specific theme: “Celebrate the holidays downtown, baby.”

Wreaths lit with LED lights will be awarded to the top three finishers.

First prize is a 48-inch-diameter wreath.

Second prize is a 36-inch wreath, and third prize is a 24-inch wreath.

“We want to give the people participating an incentive to really decorate their floats,” Pahan said.

He added that this year’s parade will hopefully put a spotlight on downtown and all it has to offer.

“Whether it be shopping at the stores, eating, visiting the art galleries – everything that downtown has,” Pahan said.
