More than 3rd of ND votes cast before Election DayBISMARCK, N.D. (AP) — More than a third of North Dakotan voters cast their ballots ahead of Election Day.
Secretary of State Al Jaeger says 88,179 votes — 36.6 percent of the total votes cast in the Nov. 2 election — were submitted by absentee ballot or through early voting.
Twenty-five of North Dakota's 53 counties conducted the Nov. 2 election mostly by absentee ballots to save money. Those counties set up one location for walk-up voting on Election Day.
Six counties offered early voting, with some precincts opening Oct. 21.
Jaeger announced the results Friday after the State Canvassing Board certified the election results.
He says lawmakers expressed concern that earlier voting stretched out the final campaign push but voters appear to be pleased by the option.
