Medical board declines disciplinary action against Fargo abortion doctorNorth Dakota medical examiners declined to consider disciplinary action Friday for a doctor who performed abortions with an expired license.
Dr. Lori Thorndike, who practices at the Red River Women’s Clinic in Fargo, performed “a number of abortions” Sept. 30, three months after her North Dakota license expired.
State law requires abortions to be performed by a licensed physician, and a violation is subject to felony criminal penalties. Thorndike renewed her license, paying triple the normal fee, or $600, the administrative penalty – for the lapse. Her medical licenses in Colorado and South Dakota were current.
Duane Houdek, executive secretary of the North Dakota Board of Medical Examiners, said he does not expect further action.
