Dorgan urges Congress to pass FAA measure

WASHINGTON – North Dakota Democratic Sen. Byron Dorgan said it would be “a significant loss” if Congress fails to pass the Federal Aviation Administration reauthorization bill during the lame-duck session.

Sen. Jay Rockefeller and Dorgan, who chairs the Senate Commerce subcommittee overseeing aviation issues, are pushing for the bill’s passage before Congress wraps up in December.

“The failure to pass a bill that will modernize our air traffic control system, promote greater safety in the skies, and do the things necessary to support our aviation system in America will be a significant loss for our country,” Dorgan said in a statement.

The FAA Reauthorization Bill has been given 16 separate short-term extensions since 2007, he said.
