United Way tops $2 million mark
The organization announced its campaign progress at a social Tuesday afternoon at Fargo’s Hilton Garden Inn.
Volunteers picked up $12,000 in donations from a few hundred local businesses Tuesday as part of a “Live United Blitz,” and individuals were encouraged to donate online. The Hilton also hosted a fundraising lunch, which made $800, said Kristina Hein, marketing director for the United Way of Cass-Clay.
The blitz marked a halfway point in the 2010 campaign, Hein said. She said the United Way hopes to raise all $5 million by the end of the year, though its final tally will not be announced until February.
“We see giving spike in November and December,” she said.
The $2 million raised so far includes more than $500,000 raised this summer by 22 “pacesetter” companies.
The $5 million mark, announced Sept. 2, is the largest goal to date for the organization. It is a 2.5 percent increase over last year’s goal. Since 2005, the United Way of Cass-Clay has increased its campaign goal by 32 percent.
