Hunter dies from apparent accidental gunshot wound in Minnesota's Otter Tail County

A 38-year-old Spring Lake Park, Minn., man died after an apparent accidental self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Corey Meyer had been hunting alone near Bluffton, an area he had hunted the past 12 years, according to the Otter Tail County Sheriff’s Office.

It appeared Meyer was moving through a heavily wooded area toward a deer he had shot when he suffered the gunshot wound, which caused extensive head trauma, the sheriff’s office said in a news release.

While the incident is under investigation, Sgt. Keith Van Dyke said they’ve ruled out the possibility that Meyer was hit by a stray bullet from another hunter. The sheriff’s office also said no foul play is suspected.

The news release said the incident was reported at 10:38 a.m. Sunday.
