Police dog stable after being stabbed four times

ROSEVILLE, Minn. – Roseville officers say a police dog that was stabbed four times is in critical but stable condition following emergency surgery.

The dog, named Major, was stabbed three times in the head and once in the chest. The dog suffered a collapsed lung among other injuries.

Maplewood police had been investigating reports of theft at a business Friday morning when they called for K-9 backup. During the search officers heard Major yelp.

KMSP-TV reports that three suspects are in custody.

The dog underwent surgery Friday evening. Doctors say the next 24 to 48 hours are critical in Major’s recovery. Roseville police say their next update will be today.
