Hillsboro falls victim to a rally in the Region 2 volleyball final
The Aggies rallied after dropping the first two sets to beat Hillsboro 21-25,
21-25, 25-21, 25-23, 15-8 in the championship match of the North Dakota Class B, Region 2 high school volleyball tournament. The win advances the 29-10 Aggies to the state tournament for the second straight season. Hillsboro closed at 22-9.
“This is the first time we’ve come back from
0-2,” PR/F-L coach Sherry Currie said. “It’s been done to us four times. After the second game, I told the girls, ‘Let’s do it this time.’
“It was good timing for it to happen.”
Defense got the Aggies back into a position to win. Sydney Larson had 27 digs, Shayna Ruzicka 17 and Brittnee Linn 10 to lead a PR-F-L defense that became more aggressive as the match progressed.
“In the first two games, balls were hitting the floor that we’ve usually gotten all year,” Currie said. “But our back-row defense really picked up. It seemed like Sydney was picking up everything (Mikkaela) Toenies was hitting. And we figured if we could shut her down, we had a chance to hold everybody down.”
