Three Affiliated Tribes election contestedNEW TOWN, N.D. – A group of tribal members is contesting the Three Affiliated Tribes chairman election.
The group cites irregularities at polling places, including nontribal members allegedly voting.
The tribal election board is looking into the matter. Tribal spokesman Nathaniel Mayer declined comment to The Bismarck Tribune.
Former chairman Tex Hall got 55 percent of the vote and defeated incumbent chairman Marcus Levings in the Nov. 2 election.
When Levings beat Hall in 2006, the contest dragged on for months while Hall unsuccessfully appealed his loss to the National Indian Gaming Commission and tribal courts.
