Weekend watch: High school volleyball: Eastern Dakota Conference tournament

Today, Friday, Saturday at Grand Forks Red River High School

The top four finishers in this eight-team tournament will advance to next weeks North Dakota Class A state tournament in Minot. Top-seeded Grand Forks Red River is favored to win its noon opener today against No. 8-seed Devils Lake. No. 4 seed Fargo North will try to avenge two regular-season losses to No. 5 seed West Fargo at 2 p.m. today. No. 2 seed Fargo Shanley is favored to beat No. 7 seed Wahpeton at 4 p.m. today while No. 3 seed Fargo South is favored against No. 6 seed Fargo Davies at 6 p.m. today. The two state tournament play-in games are scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. Saturday with the championship game slated for 4 p.m.

High school football: Minnesota state quarterfinal games

2 p.m., 5 p.m. and 8 p.m. at the Fargodome

Ada-Borup will try to avenge its only loss of the season when it takes on unbeaten Goodridge-Grygla in the 2 p.m., 9-man state quarterfinal game. Unbeaten Mahnomen will take on unbeaten and top-ranked Barnesville at 5 p.m. in the Class 1A state quarterfinal game. At 8 p.m., 7-4 Pelican Rapids – winners of three straight games – will try to knock off No. 7-ranked and unbeaten Ottertail Central in the Class 2A state quarterfinal game.

College volleyball: Centenary, Oral Roberts at NDSU

7 p.m. Friday, 7 p.m. Saturday at Bentson Bunker Fieldhouse

With one win this weekend, the Bison volleyball team will clinch a berth in the Summit League tournament – a four-team tournament NDSU will host Nov. 19-20. The Bison currently sit in second place of the Summit League with a 12-4 record. They will host last-place Centenary on Friday and fourth-place Oral Roberts on Saturday. Bison junior setter Jennifer Lopez, originally thought to be out for the season with a liver laceration, returned to action last weekend in a loss at South Dakota State.

High school girls swimming: North Dakota state meet

12:30 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. Saturday at Mandan Aquatic Center

Three metro high school swimmers boast the best times in the 100-meter butterfly event. West Fargo ninth-grader Danica Dutt has the state’s best butterfly time followed by Fargo North sophomore Emily Roche and Fargo South junior Madeline Smith. North eighth-grader Ellie Roche has the state’s best time in the 100-meter breaststroke and the second-fastest time in the 200 IM. Diving and swimming preliminaries will be held Friday with the finals set for Saturday.
