ND 9-man state football semifinals: W-L trumps Thompson

THOMPSON, N.D. – Before Wyndmere-Lidgerwood had gained a single yard of offense, Warbirds linebacker Kelly Illies scooped up a bouncing lateral pass and ran it 52 yards into the end zone for an early lead.

It was a defensive omen for the rest of the afternoon.

Wyndmere-Lidgerwood recovered three fumbles, picked off three passes and recorded five sacks as the Warbirds beat Thompson 40-22 in the semifinals of the North Dakota state

9-man playoffs on Saturday.

Wyndmere-Lidgerwood, who improved to 11-1, will play Wells County in the state championship game Friday at 3 p.m. at the Alerus Center.
