Fargo man accused of sexual assaults

A 26-year-old Fargo man is accused of sexually assaulting two women, both of whom were unable to give consent, police said.

A 21-year-old Fargo woman told police she met a man at a Fargo bar on Halloween and that she was later sexually assaulted, Fargo Police Sgt. Mark Lykken said.

Police identified a suspect and arrested Colt Bergeron, 1013 7th St. N., at 5 p.m. Wednesday at a local business and took him to the Cass County Jail.

Bergeron was arrested on suspicion of gross sexual imposition for allegedly having sexual contact with the victim, who was unaware that a sexual act was being committed upon her, Lykken said Thursday.

Alcohol may have been a factor in the incident, he said.

“We have probable cause to believe that he knew that she was unaware of her environment,” he said.

The alleged assault was reported to police from Sanford Medical Center at 8:50 a.m. Sunday, according to the police dispatch log.

Gross sexual imposition is a Class A felony punishable by up to 20 years in prison and a $10,000 fine.

Bergeron also was arrested on the same charge for a separate incident on Aug. 17.

In that case, a 19-year-old woman told police she met Bergeron on a social website and then in person a short time later. They drank alcohol, and the woman believed Bergeron had inappropriate sexual contact with her, but she didn’t have any recollection of it, Lykken said.
