State should cut sales tax rateWe will now have a local sales tax rate of 7.5 percent in Fargo after the new vote to fund flood protection. Five percent of that goes to the state of North Dakota general fund.
Maybe we should now be asking our Legislature to lower the state’s share of the sales tax collections to 4 percent. The Legislature has lowered income and property tax rates across the state and created several rainy-day funds, so why not lower the state’s portion of sales tax to 4 percent or less?
