Two ND National Guard units put on alert

BISMARCK (AP) — Two North Dakota Army National Guard units have been notified that they might be called to duty.

The Guard says the Carrington-based 835th Engineer Team and the Bismarck-based 112th Security and Support Aviation Battalion have been placed on alert.

If mobilized, the 835th Engineer Team would be comprised of about 40 members of the 897th Engineer Team and the 835th Engineer Team. They specialize in paving operations.

About 55 members of the 112th have been notified. They specialize in aviation command and control.

The Guard says the alert did not include a potential duty location or dates.

Fewer than 100 North Dakota Guard soldiers are serving in Afghanistan and Iraq. The Wahpeton-based 188th Engineer Company was placed on alert last month.
