College hockey: Denver player reportedly fractures neck

DENVER – University of Denver forward Jesse Martin

reportedly suffered neck fractures during a game at North Dakota

and faces emergency surgery.

The Denver Post is reporting that Martin suffered three neck

fractures Saturday and was taken to a Minneapolis hospital where he

was to be operated on Sunday.

Martin was hit by North Dakota forward Brad Malone in the second

period.

Martin’s father, Terry Martin, tells The Post his son was

knocked unconscious and had no use of his extremities for several

minutes.

The elder Martin says his son regained movement while he was

being taken to a Grand Forks hospital but was in extreme

pain.

University of Denver officials didn’t immediately return calls

from The Associated Press on Sunday.
