North Dakota Political Notebook: North Dakota to celebrate 121st birthday

BISMARCK – With so much focus on Election Day, North Dakota’s big day was nearly overlooked this year.

The state celebrates its 121st birthday on Tuesday, a fact pointed out by Secretary of State Al Jaeger.

We’re guessing you don’t have much planned this year for a celebration. But what about the big 125? How do you think the state should celebrate its next big birthday in 2014? Send your ideas to politics@

wday.com or write me at Teri Finneman c/o Forum Communications, Press Room, State Capitol, Bismarck, ND 58505. Please include your name, town and a phone number to reach you for verification.

I’ll run some of your ideas in a future column.

Legislative week ahead

The Agriculture Committee meets at 10 a.m. Thursday in the Prairie Room in the state Capitol.

Lawmakers will hear a presentation from the Advisory Committee on Sustainable Agriculture and receive a report from the State Board of Agricultural Research and Education.

The committee will also review a bill draft and a resolution draft relating to the rewrite of North Dakota Century Code provisions governing the State Seed Department.

The agenda can be found at www.legis.nd.gov/council/interim/meetings.

Campaign contributors

If you want to see who is donating money to North Dakota political candidates, you can find that information at http://web.apps.state.nd.us/sec/emspublic/gp/cfdisclosurerptsearchbyrpt.htm?typebyRpt.

Click the race topic (statewide, legislative, etc). The most recent reports filed were Pre-General.

Don’t forget to also look at the measure committees related to the legacy fund (Measure 1) and the proposed ban on high-fence hunting (Measure 2).

Suicide coalition meets

The North Dakota Suicide Prevention Coalition will meet Wednesday in Bismarck.

The meeting begins at 10 a.m. in the Gold Seal Building, 918 E Divide Ave.

Agenda items include discussing state funding and programming, as well as reviewing committee work and coalition goals.
