Moorhead City Council cuts funding for MSUM Fourth of July celebrationSome minor fireworks erupted at the Moorhead City Council meeting tonight when it was decided the city would not contribute money toward the 2011 Fourth of July celebration hosted by Minnesota State University Moorhead.
The city has given money to the event in the past, including $8,200 in 2010.
And just weeks ago, a 2011 appropriation got the thumbs-up from at least six council members, the threshold required to pass a spending motion.
Tonight, however, the council revisited the question of how much it wanted to give to outside agencies and three of the eight council members who regularly decide votes said “no” to the MSUM subsidy.
