Davies' Lachowitzer prevails for Class A girls cross country state championship

JAMESTOWN, N.D. – Minot’s Brecca Wahlund may have been the top ranked girls’ cross country runner heading into Saturday’s state Class A meet, but reigning champ Tarin Lachowitzer, of Fargo Davies, wasn’t about to hand over her crown without a fight.

Lachowitzer, who was ranked No. 2 in the final Class A coaches’ poll, took down Wahlund to capture her second straight state title and the first individual state championship in the history of Davies High school athletics.

“It’s really exciting,” she said of winning back-to-back individual state championships. “I was really nervous for this.”

Her nerves seemed to take a back seat while running as she cleared the field at Hillcrest Golf Course by over 18 seconds with a time of 14:43.3.

“I think I ran pretty well,” said Lachowitzer, who ran for Fargo South last year when she won her first individual state title. “I pushed myself a lot towards the end, which is what I wanted.”

Fargo Shanley’s Sarah Jacobson took runner-up honors with a time of 15:01.8 and Jamestown’s Alison Allmer accomplished her goal by finishing third.
