28-year-old accused of raping Fargo woman

A 28-year-old Moorhead man is accused of rape after allegedly hitting a woman in the face and demanding she have sex with him; he and the woman had been dating.

According to a police report filed with the charges:

Fargo officers met with the alleged victim Wednesday just before 4 a.m., less than two hours after the 28-year-old had come over to her apartment uninvited with two other friends.

After the man’s friends left, the couple argued, and she told him to leave. Then he backhanded her across her face, cutting her lip before hitting her at least four more times.

He then said he wanted to have sex with her, and she complied to avoid being hit again, she told officers.

Police returned to her apartment to find Terrence Burton there dressed in a tank top and socks. Police arrested Burton, who did not answer any questions about what had happened.

Burton was charged Friday in Cass County District Court with gross sexual imposition, criminal trespass and simple assault.

The gross sexual imposition count, charged out as a Class AA felony, carries a mandatory minimum of 20 years in prison upon conviction.

In his first court appearance Friday, Burton’s bail was set at $100,000.
