Please, more thoughtful letters to the editor

Lately, while reading the opinions section, I have become irritated at the letters regarding the upcoming elections. Every day I open the Metro section thinking “OK, who will the conservatives be bashing today?”

It seems that every day there is a letter regarding one of the candidates, be it a Democrat or Republican, where someone is mindlessly running their mouths. I’m sick of seeing letters in which people criticize candidates or political parties as a whole without having any evidence or credibility to back them up. Most people simply write in to say they oppose people because of religious reasons or simply personal preferences or beliefs.

If you are going to take the time to write a letter to the paper criticizing a candidate, you should be well-informed regarding all of the issues and have done your research. No one wants to hear you complain about issues you have no facts or concrete knowledge about.
