UPDATED: WF, Bismarck mayors back Berg in House race

West Fargo Mayor Rich Mattern and Bismarck Mayor John Warford are endorsing Republican challenger Rick Berg in North Dakota’s U.S. House race, the campaign announced today.

“Rick is a natural leader who has created jobs in the private sector and balanced budgets at the state level," Mattern said in a statement provided by the campaign.

Warford said in a similar statement, “He’s created jobs and understands the role of government, and we need his kind of common sense in Washington to turn this country around.”

Dickinson Mayor Dennis Johnson and former Fargo Mayor Bruce Furness also have endorsed Berg, the campaign said.

Berg is in a close race against nine-term Democratic incumbent Earl Pomeroy.

For his part, Pomeroy has the support of current Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker and Grand Forks Mayor Michael Brown.
