Wall Street Journal puts spotlight on Fargo home for sale

A free real estate listing through The Wall Street Journal isn’t too shabby.

But that’s what Chris and Julie Hemmah have received since their home was listed this week in the journal’s online “House of the Day” column. The Hemmahs are selling their modern, two-story home for $679,000 with Park Co. Realtors in Fargo.

“House of the Day” features slideshows of homes for sale around the country. The Fargo residence at 808 2nd Ave. N. will be listed along with the likes of a Montana ranch, a mansion built on an island off the coast of Maine and a Spanish-style home listed for $2.85 million in Carefree, Ariz.

The Hemmah home was featured in an April 17 edition of The Forum, after the Hemmahs turned the former Clark Holman architectural firm building into a 2,800-square-foot home with two bedrooms, three baths, a theater room, an office, a two-story-high atrium and a gallery space.

Shortly after the story ran, the Hemmahs decided to put the property on the market.

“House of the Day” editor Sushil Cheema contacted the Hemmahs’ Realtor, Carol Raney, after stumbling across their listing. Cheema told the Hemmahs that she scouts a multiple-listing service and various real estate websites daily in search for unusual homes that are on the market.

“Sometimes they like to go off the beaten path,” Hemmah said. “This time, she ended up searching in Fargo.”

Hemmah said it was “quite a shock” to receive an e-mail from a Wall Street Journal reporter regarding their Fargo home. “At first I thought it was a prank,” he said, “but when I followed the link, and Googled the reporter’s name, I quickly realized this was real.”

Hemmah said the couple decided to sell their home because they’ve realized they enjoy the process of planning and creating a residence as much as they like living in the finished product.

He said they’re already working with their architect on design for a new home, “which will also likely be a modern design. We’d like to purchase a small, urban, in-fill lot and build from the ground up …. maybe with a green roof deck.”
