Fargo man sentenced in West Fargo credit union robberyFARGO – A man who robbed the Town & Country Credit Union in June, was sentenced today in federal court.
Matthew C. Becker, 20, of Fargo pleaded guilty to one count of felony bank robbery in June.
U.S. District Court Judge Ralph R. Erickson sentenced Becker to five years and three months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.
At about 3 p.m. on Aug. 3, 2009, Becker entered the Town & Country Credit Union in West Fargo wearing a hooded sweatshirt, sunglasses and a red bandana across his nose and mouth.
Becker showed a weapon and demanded money from the cash drawers. Two employees gave about $9,300 in cash before he ran out.
Becker was arrested the next day after a Fargo police office recognized him from video footage of the robbery.
“The crime left employees of the credit union traumatized,” Assistant U.S. attorney Keith Reisenauer said in a release about the sentencing. “Although only 19 years of age at the time of the offense, Becker’s sentence was appropriate, considering the nature and circumstances of the crime.
Reisenauer prosecuted the case.
Becker was also ordered to pay restitution of $9,314 and a $100 Crime Victim’s Fund.
