Heritage Center event slated tonight in Fargo

The second half of the campaign to raise more than $12 million for expansion of the North Dakota Heritage Center will kick off at a reception from 5 to 7 tonight at the Fargo Holiday Inn.

Among the reception hosts will be Fargo Mayor Dennis Walaker and former North Dakota Gov. George Sinner. The event is open to the public.

The 2009 Legislature authorized $51.7 million for the expansion of the center that will nearly double its size. Of this, $39.7 million in state funds was appropriated. An additional $12 million is being raised from private and other sources.

The State Historical Society of North Dakota Foundation has raised the funds needed to break ground for the construction. The second half of the campaign will focus on smaller gifts that will honor North Dakota families and communities.

The expansion project is expected to be completed by 2014, which is North Dakota’s 125th anniversary.
