FARGO - Local groups are working to reunite pets with their owners, in the aftermath of a blaze that destroyed a south Fargo apartment building tonight.

Displaced residents are being given shelter at Calvary United Methodist Church, 4575 45th St. S., Fargo.

Pets also are being taken to the church to be reunited with their owners, with help from the FM Humane Society.

Residents should call Calvary United at (701) 232-5650, with inquiries about any missing pets.

Any unclaimed pets will be taken to the FM Humane Society. Contact the FM Humane Society at (701) 239-0077.

By 9:30 p.m., fire crews had retrieved about four dogs, two kittens and two chinchillas from the Galleria On 42nd apartment building, 3700 42nd St. S., where authorities were expected to remain on scene throughout the night.

Fire investigators will return tomorrow to continue their work in the daylight hours, Fargo Fire Marshal Norman Scott said.
