Pawlenty swipes at Horner in endorsement of EmmerMINNEAPOLIS – Gov. Tim Pawlenty is endorsing fellow Republican Tom Emmer for governor, while taking a swipe at Independence Party candidate Tom Horner.
In a statement released Sunday, Pawlenty says he has known Horner for 30 years and he’s a decent man, but Pawlenty says Horner’s proposals would take the state in the wrong direction.
Horner is a former Republican strategist. A key piece of his plan for handling an expected $5.8 billion budget deficit is tacking the sales tax on more items.
Pawlenty says any Republican who votes for Horner is not only helping Democrat Mark Dayton, but casting a vote to undo the tax and spending cuts Pawlenty championed.
Recent independent polls show Dayton is leading the race with a sizable share of undecided voters still up for grabs.
